正子掃描的時代已經來臨?

The Academy of Molecular Imaging has started patient enrollment for a clinical study that will compare traditional planar technetium-99m methylene diphosphonate bone imaging with F-18 NaF PET/CT in detecting bone metastases. The trial will involve about 500 patients with breast, prostate and nonsmall cell lung cancers.

正子掃描已經廣泛的運用在腫瘤的偵測,評估,以及監測治療反應,絕多數的檢查運用的追蹤劑是 氟18標記的葡萄糖(FDG)。 近來,不同的研究團體,紛紛發表新的正子掃描追蹤劑做為不同標的物的追蹤,這包括了腫瘤生長指標的FLT,以及心臟血流灌住的 BMS-747158-02  ...等等,不少也進入臨床試驗階段。之前我們也報導了史丹佛大學的科學家結合氟18標記的葡萄糖(FDG),以及F-18骨骼掃描的雞尾酒檢查法
 
最近這一篇新聞則宣告正子掃描將挑戰便宜的傳統核醫掃描。換言之,這個臨床試驗將比較 F-18 PET的骨骼掃描,與傳統平面Tc-99m MDP 骨骼掃描的優缺點! 可以預見的,其中最大的差異將是比較多出來的醫療經費,是否可以轉換成提供更高的醫療品質以及預後。看來正子掃描取代部份傳統核醫掃描的時代即將來臨?
